The Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne acknowledges that preventing child abuse requires proactive approaches across policies, procedures and practices within parishes, agencies and entities consistent with the requirements of the:

  • Child Safe Standards and the Reportable Conduct Scheme (Commission for Children and Young People, Victoria)
  • National Principles for Child Safe Organisations (Australian Human Rights Commission)
  • National Catholic Safeguarding Standards (Catholic Professional Standards Limited)

In fulfilling this responsibility, the Safeguarding Children and Young People Framework has been developed to guide the implementation of child safety policies, procedures and practices within parishes, agencies and entities with the aim of promoting the safety of children and young people.

Please note: May Our Children Flourish (MOCF) documentation (e.g. Child Safety Policy, posters) have been superseded by the Safeguarding Children and Young People Framework. We kindly ask that you discontinue the use of all May Our Children Flourish (MOCF) documentation and resources.

Each section contains information about each of the elements of the Framework and supporting information sheets, templates and resources to assist your parish, agency or entity to meet its safeguarding obligations.

A Parish & Entity Self-Assessment Tool has been developed to assist parishes and entities to self-assess their compliance with the Safeguarding Children and Young People Framework to ensure that child safety is embedded within the culture of the parish, entity and is reflected in the way in which the parish or entity conducts its ministry.
