Safeguarding Essentials: e-learning module
This module is currently in development.
All clergy, employees and volunteers working or in ministry are required to complete the Safeguarding Essentials online program (approximately 30 minutes) upon commencement and on an annual basis.
This training is designed to provide foundational knowledge to:
- understand our duty of care in relation to safeguarding children, young people and adults across the Archdiocese
- identify behaviour that constitutes child abuse or neglect including grooming
- understand the indicators of abuse
- respond to and report allegations or concerns regarding abuse.
Please note: The completion of online training may pose challenges for volunteers without access to a computer and those who do not feel confident using technology. It may help to host an assisted session and work with volunteers to complete the online training as a group.
Safeguarding Children and Young People: Induction Session for Clergy and Employees
This compulsory induction session is specifically designed for persons (i.e. clergy and employees) who are newly appointed to the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne to:
- develop their awareness of and understanding of the different categories of abuse
- equip them to respond and report child abuse and child-safety related misconduct
- develop their knowledge of relevant child safety legislation in Victoria
- learn about the Safeguarding Children and Young People Framework and their responsibilities within parishes, agencies and entities.
You do not require any prior knowledge in this area. The induction is pitched at an introductory level.
Two upcoming sessions are available via Zoom.
Please register for either Wednesday 29 September or Tuesday 5 October.

The Professional Standards Unit has developed for a range of e-learning videos for those involved in the implementation of child safe policies and procedures within a Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne parish, agency or entity. These e-learning videos are intended to provide convenient and easily accessible training.
